This is a subtitle for your new post

While it may be enjoyable to eat pizza and burgers sometimes, we should not put these types of foods in our bodies too often. Junk foods don't provide our bodies with the proper nutrients and can increase our risk of various health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.

On the other hand, if you fill your diet with nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains, you can become a much healthier person. Here are six benefits of eating a healthy diet.

1. REDUCED STRESS

It is normal to experience stress every once in a while, but you should not let it overtake your life. If you allow stress to take control, it can lead to high blood pressure and other health problems. Instead of reaching for a bag of chips when you are stressed, try eating more nutritious foods.

Healthy foods can relax you and boost your immune system. For example, carbohydrate-rich foods cause your brain to produce the hormone serotonin, which relaxes you. Aim to include sweet potatoes, brown rice and other healthy carbohydrates in your diet.

2. BETTER SLEEP

If you are having trouble sleeping, you might want to look at your diet. It turns out that what you put in your mouth can affect your sleep. In a recent study, participants ate a nutritionist-designed diet that was low in saturated fats and high in protein for four days and fell asleep faster than usual. It took the average participants just 17 minutes to fall asleep.

3. INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY

A nutritious diet can also increase your productivity, particularly in the workplace. If you include nutritious foods in your diet, you will be more likely to get a good night's rest—giving you the energy you need to tackle the next day's tasks. You will also be less irritable and anxious so that you can concentrate better at work.

To improve brain health and increase productivity, try to include folate, vitamin C, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E in your diet.

4. HEALTHY WEIGHT

Obesity is a growing epidemic in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than one-third of American adults are obese. Carrying too much weight can zap your energy levels and make you more susceptible to diabetes and other serious health conditions.

Making healthier choices every day can help you maintain a healthy weight so that you don’t have to experience these health problems. For example, you can replace soda with water and choose veggies over fries as a dinner side.

 5. STRONGER TEETH

Eating a nutritious diet can also result in healthier teeth. Crunchy fruits and vegetables, like apples, carrots and celery, can improve saliva flow and scrub plaque off your teeth. Calcium-rich foods, like cheese and yogurt, can strengthen your teeth and make them less susceptible to cracks and chips.

6. YOUNGER-LOOKING SKIN

One of the most effective ways to achieve youthful skin is to include healthy foods in your diet. Salmon, for example, is packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which helps you maintain smooth and soft skin. Onions contain the antioxidant quercetin—protecting your skin against wrinkles. Other foods that are beneficial for your skin include sweet potatoes, avocados, blueberries and red peppers.

Now that you are aware of all the benefits of eating healthy, it is time to start including more nutrition-dense foods in your diet. If you fill your diet with lean protein, fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains, you can enjoy many physical and mental health benefits.
